Spice VillageImagine a resort where less is really more. No air-conditioning or television or nightclubs. Just a mirror, held up to an age old culture and a living harmony. This is the tribal village, reborn for the modern traveller. Accommodation: 52 individual, tribal-styled thatch-roof cottages with verandahs (with, we hasten to add, modern plumbing, solar-powered hot water and contemporary furnishings). You can choose from: Standard Villas: these are suite accommodations, with living rooms, a bedroom and a private garden, complete with your own park bench. Deluxe Villas: cozy huts tucked away between fruit trees, herb beds and 50 year-old timbers from the arborarium laid down by A. W. Woods. Activities: You can go on a boat safari in Lake Periyar, a great way to make a quick, comfortable tour of the vast reserve and sanctuary. Try a half- or full-day trek, with our naturalist pointing out some spectacular flora and fauna. You could also do a night trek, stopping in a forest rest-house overnight. Visit a spice or rubber plantation, to see how pepper is harvested, or how your eraser started life. Learn to cook with spices at our evening cookery classes. The focus is on Kerala cuisine, with the accent being on (of course) the effective use of spices. How to Get There: By Air: Cochin (180 KM), Trivandrum (265KM), and Madurai (165 KM) By Rail: Nearest Rail Head Kottayam (110 KM) By Road: Cochin (180 KM), Trivandrum (265KM), Madurai (165 KM), Kottayam (110 KM).
Accommodation: Each of the cozy cottages has spacious bedrooms and a private verandah overlooking the scenic natural beauty of the resort. The rooms are equipped with all modern facilities including CCTV, round-the-clock in-room dining and attached bathrooms with Jacuzzi, with hot and cold running water. Luxury suites with all modern amenities are also available. Activities: The first and foremost activity of a tourist in Thekkady is boating in the Lake. You can see wild animals along the grange of the lake - foraging, bathing, drinking and resting. And if you are lucky enough, you can see the elephants playing with their babies in the lake. KTDC and Forest Departments operate the Boat Service. There are 5 Daily Trips and each trip is approximately two hours.
